Is multi-cloud actually worth the complexity?
Honest answer: for most SMEs, no. A well-architected single-cloud deployment with multi-region setup provides 99.99% availability without multi-cloud complexity. Multi-cloud makes sense when: you have a genuine regulatory requirement to distribute across providers, you've been acquired and need to integrate different cloud environments, you need best-of-breed services not available in one cloud (Azure AI + AWS data services), or your scale makes vendor negotiation leverage valuable.
What is the biggest challenge in multi-cloud?
Identity and networking. Getting consistent authentication and authorisation across clouds without sprawling IAM policies is hard. Cross-cloud networking (latency, cost, security) is also complex. These are the two areas where most multi-cloud implementations struggle, and where we spend the most design effort.
How do you handle data sovereignty across multiple clouds?
Data sovereignty requires knowing exactly where data resides at rest and in transit. We implement: cloud-native data residency controls (region pinning), data classification mapping (which data can be in which cloud/region), encryption key management per sovereignty requirement, and audit logging that proves data location compliance for regulators.

Terraform is the most practical IaC tool across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Pulumi is an alternative for those preferring general programming languages.
